Chapter 1: General Provisions
Article 1 Purpose
- This regulations have purpose of establishing the principles and standards of research ethics of the Association for 4Dframe (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Association’), enhances the research ethics of members, prevents violations of research ethics in advance, and handle quickly and fairly if there is violation of research ethics.
Article 2 Applicability
- These regulations apply to members of the Association for 4Dframe (hereinafter referred to as ‘members’). However, this code applies to members for whom deliberation procedures for violations of this code have been initiated even after withdrawal from the Association.
Article 3 Scope of Application
- This regulation is applies not only to papers published in 「Next Generation Frontiers of STEAM; NGFSTEAM」 or manuscripts under review, but also to the entire scope of a member’s professional role as a 4Dframe researcher. However, unrelated member's activities to professional activities or not affecting are not subject to this code.
Chapter 2 Author's Ethics
Article 4 Regulation of use of existing research results by others or oneself
- In principle, members conduct research based on their own research ideas, plans, and research materials, and present research results expressed in their own words.
- Members shall not present all or part of research or claims that they have not conducted in papers or writings as if they were the member's own research results or claims.
- Members must not use their existing research results as if they were new research results.
- Notwithstanding Paragraphs 2 and 3, when announcing research results, members must accurately indicate sources and citations to the extent that they do not impair the originality of their research, and must indicate any ideas, research materials, or sentences from other people's or their own existing research can be used partially. However, the following actions must not be performed.
- The act of expressing all or part of another person's or one's existing research ideas, research design, and research data as if they were one's own new research results by changing the description method.
- The act of using someone else's or one's existing research writing sentences as if they were one's own new sentences.
- The act of extracting and combining other people's or one's own existing research writings, such as editing words or replacing synonyms, and using them as if it were one's own new research results. However, it is permitted if creativity is acknowledged in the selection or arrangement of materials in the excerpted/combined parts and the source or citation indication is accurate.
- Even if accurate source or citation indication is provided, one must not rely on others' or one's own existing research data, research results, or reconstruction to the extent that it undermines the originality of the research. However, research writings that introduce, organize, and evaluate research trends in academia are not included.
- Notwithstanding Paragraph 4, if the existing research results of other person or oneself have already been published and are widely known through publication in general or research materials, members may use all or part of the research results without attribution or citation.
Article 5 Author indication
- NGFSTEAM (Next Generation Frontiers of STEAM) can be published once a year (published on the last day of December) up to four times a year (published on December 31, March 31, June 30, and September 30), the editorial committee determines the schedule after the IMSCC Conference every October.
- Manuscripts will be accepted for three months prior to the publication date, and reviewing will be completed within 30 days prior to the publication date.
Article 6 Citation and reference indication
- When a member cites publicly available academic material, he or she must make an effort to describe it accurately and, unless the material is common knowledge, the source must be clearly written.
- When a member wishes to use data obtained through personal contact or evaluating a paper/research plan, he or she must obtain the permission of the researcher who provided the information before citing it.
Article 7 Duplicate or double publication of research work
- Members must not publish (submit) or attempt to publish their previously published research (including research scheduled for publication or under review) as if it were new research, regardless of whether it is domestic or foreign. Even if the research data and sentences are partially different, but the overall identity is recognized, it is considered a duplicate publication.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of Paragraph 1, members may post or publish papers or books in any of the following cases. However, in case of items 1-6, it is principle to indicate the exact source or citation.
- When all or part of the paper is published as a separate paper or book.
- When all or part of the research service report is published as a paper or book.
- When papers that already published are collected and published as a book.
- When publishing all or part of the same paper or book as a paper or book in the same or different language, and the permission of the copyright holder is obtained.
- When publishing a short research note or book review in an academic journal and then expanding it to publish a paper or book, or adding research data, interpretation, or detailed research process information, etc. to publish a paper or book.
- When all or part of a paper already published or book is published in the form of an anthology selected and edited by another editor with the approval of the author, or in a special issue of an academic journal.
- When all or part of the contents of a paper already published or book are easily written and published in a non-academic publication such as a popular magazine or educational book.
- In addition, if the publishing research writing that meets above provisions does not violated the academic integrity.
- If a member wishes to publish using research that has already been published, he or she must provide information about previous publications to the editor of the journal in which the member wishes to publish and check whether it constitutes a duplicate or double publication.
Chapter 3 Reviewer's Ethics
Article 8 Sincere Review
- Reviewers must faithfully review papers requested by the editorial committee within the period specified in the review regulations and notify the results to the editorial committee.
- If you determine that you are not appropriate to review the paper, you will notify the fact to the editorial committee without delay.
Article 9 Fair Review
- These regulations apply to members of the Association for 4Dframe (hereinafter referred to as ‘members’). However, this code applies to members for whom deliberation procedures for violations of this code have been initiated even after withdrawal from the Association.
Article 10 Scope of Application
- Reviewers must fairly review papers based on objective standards, regardless of their personal academic beliefs or personal relationship with the author.
- Reviewers must faithfully read and evaluate the paper being reviewed, and must not disqualify the paper because it conflicts with the reviewer's own viewpoint or interpretation.
- If the reviewer decides that the paper cannot be published, a sufficient explanation must be provided.
Article 11 Confidentiality
- Reviewers must guarantee the confidentiality of the paper being reviewed. Except in cases where special advice needed for paper review, the paper must not be shown to a third party or to be discussed with content.
- The contents of the paper must not be cited without the permission of the author before the the paper is published.
Chapter 4 Enforcement of Ethics Regulations
Article 12 Reporting of Violations of Ethics Regulations
- If a member becomes aware that other member has violated the ethics regulations, he or she must bring to attention the ethics regulations and encourage the member to correct the problem on his or her own.
- If the problem is not corrected despite the efforts in Paragraph 1 or if a clear violation of the ethics regulations is revealed, it must be reported to the association's ethics committee.
- The ethics committee must not open to the outside world the identity of members who report research ethics issues to the association.
Article 13: Composition of Ethics Committee
- The head of the ethics committee is appointed by the board of directors of the association, and the members of the ethics committee consist of 5~7 members and are appointed by the chair of the ethics committee.
Article 14 Authority and role of the Ethics Committee
- . The Research Ethics Committee reviews violations of research ethics and determines necessary measures and sanctions.
- The Research Ethics Committee may implement education and other projects to raise members' awareness of research ethics and prevent research ethics violations.
- Research ethics committee members must keep confidential of the personal information of the complainant and the respondent, the notified facts, and matters related to their deliberation and decision.
Article 15 Guarantee of opportunity to explain
- The Ethics Committee must provide sufficient opportunity for explanation to members reported who have violated ethics regulations.
Article 16 Sanctions
- If there is a recommendation for disciplinary action from the Ethics Committee, the Chairman convenes a meeting of the board of directors and makes the final decision on whether and what the disciplinary action will be
- Members who are determined to have violated the ethics regulations may be subject to disciplinary action such as warnings, restrictions on submissions, cancellation of publication, suspension or deprivation of membership, and these measures may be notified to other organizations or individuals
Article 17 Revision of regulations
- The revision procedure for the ethics regulations follows the association's regulation revision procedure.
Addendum
This ethic regulation will come into effect from August 22, 2023.
